The name SHHH (希聲堂) is inspired by Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching (老子的《道德經》): "The most powerful sound is silence" (大音希聲). Our Founder & Creative Director, Marvin Lin, was born into a lineage of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners. Her childhood was defined by the scent of botanicals and her grandfather’s guiding ethos: "To give is more blessed than to receive." Her obsession with precision began at the apothecary scales, where herbs were measured to the exact milligram—“五钱菊花、三钱当归，必须分毫不差”

Though she rose to international acclaim as a stylist, winning the L'Oréal Professional Grand Prix and setting industry records in the UK, Marvin Lin remains tethered to her roots. To solve the modern crisis of hair loss, she returned to academia, completing the HMX program at Harvard Medical School.
